What this is

Species Level identifies problems that affect humanity as a whole and works out practical ways to solve them. It is written for policymakers looking for workable, non-partisan approaches, and for anyone who wants to help.

The approach is to apply increasingly capable AI models to produce first drafts, then bring in subject-matter experts through collaborative consultations to test, correct and extend them. The goal is to put the resulting plans into practice with the cooperation of citizens and leaders.

How the plans are made

Four steps, in the open

  1. Draft. AI models write a first plan from published research, official statistics and current reporting. Each figure links to the source it came from, and a claim that cannot be sourced is left out or marked as uncertain.
  2. Test. The plan is checked against events as they stand and dated. The current versions are current as of September 2026.
  3. Consult. Subject-matter experts review each draft in collaborative consultations on the platform. Their corrections and additions go into the next version.
  4. Implement. Members take the strongest parts of each plan to the citizens, officials and organizations who can act on them.

Versions and updates

Every plan is dated

Each plan shows a version number and the month it was last brought up to date. The versions published now are current as of September 2026. They will be revised as outside experts join the work, and as world and national events change in the months and years ahead.

Minor versions (1.1, 1.2) correct errors and update figures or sources. Major versions (2.0) follow expert review or events that change the plan itself. Earlier versions stay available for download.

Why NHI is here

Planning for a low-probability, high-impact case

If non-human intelligence exists and its presence were confirmed, much of the analysis of war, hunger, poverty and climate would change. Even if no such intelligence is interacting with humanity today, contact may become possible as technology advances. Few people are working through the practical consequences, so we do.

An organization within the Emergent Frontiers Institute

Species Level is an organization within the Emergent Frontiers Institute (EFI), alongside the UAP Institute. Its projects are EFI projects, its members are EFI members, and it runs on EFI's collaboration platform, so new platform features reach this site as EFI adds them.

Everything done here is open to view, and every member takes part as an equal under EFI's principles and structure.

How to join

What happens when you join

  1. Ask to join. Use the join form: your name, your email, and a line about your background and which plans interest you.
  2. Set your password. When your request is approved, you receive an email with a link to set your password.
  3. Take the tour. Your first sign-in starts a short guided tour of the collaboration platform.
  4. Onboarding call. A member then meets you on a call through the platform's voice chat to answer questions and help you choose where to start.
